Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center announces auditions for Hairspray! Auditions will take place on January 7-9, 2026, and are open to all actors of all ages.

The Audition

Please arrive a minimum of 10 minutes before your scheduled audition time to check in and fill out any necessary paperwork including all known conflicts.

Vocal Audition

Vocal auditions will take place on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, from 4:00-9:00pm at the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center in the Rehearsal Hall.

  • Please follow signs to enter through the Artist Entrance on 9th Street to check in with Stage Management.

  • Please prepare two contrasting 16 bar cuts of contemporary musical theatre songs. Songs from the show are not discouraged.

  • Please bring sheet music in the correct key for the provided accompanist.

  • Please bring a current headshot and resume as well as a signed copy of the Application for Minors in Performance form linked below.

  • All actors must attend the Dance Call on Thursday, January 8, 2026, to be considered for casting unless specifically told not to attend by producer.

The Dance Call

The Dance Call for those auditioning will take place on Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 4:00-8:00pm in the Rehearsal Hall.

  • Please follow signs to enter through the Artist Entrance on 9th Street to check in with Stage Management.

  • You must attend the Vocal Audition to be considered for casting.

  • Appropriate dance apparel includes: Leotard or solid color fitted shirt, skin-colored tights, black tights, or jazz pants (a ballet or swing skirt over leotard and tights is also acceptable).  You will need character shoes (jazz or ballet shoes if you don't have character).

  • Please have your hair pulled back away from your face. 

Callbacks

Callbacks will be scheduled by invitation only on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 4:00-9:00pm in the Rehearsal Hall.

Current Lincoln Park students under the age of 18 must download and complete the following Application for Minors in Performances form and bring with them to auditions.

Students under the age of 18 who do not attend Lincoln Park, please download and complete this full version of the form and bring to your audition.

Synopsis

It's 1962 in Baltimore, and lovable teen, Tracy Turnblad, has only one desire – to dance on the popular "Corny Collins Show." When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob, Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network... all without denting her 'do!

Character Breakdown

Tracy Turnblad - Confident, talented, and incredibly determined. A romantic with a good heart and desire to cut up the dance floor. Vocal range: G3-G5. Played by a white actress.

Corny Collins - The charismatic host of the Corny Collins' Show. Good looking and smooth talking, he is a genuinely nice guy both on and off camera. Vocal range: D3-A4. Played by a white actor.

Edna Turnblad - Tracy's big and blonde mother. She is a working housewife who has lost her confidence and dream to be a plus-size clothing designer. Boisterous and commanding. Vocal range: F3-G5. Played by a white performer.

Penny Pingleton - Tracy's best friend and dorky sidekick. Not the brightest girl, but she has good intentions. Bursting to get free of her mother's dominating control. Vocal range: A3-G5. Played by a white actress.

Velma Von Tussle - Amber's mother and the director of Corny Collin's show. She is a devious taskmaster and wants her daughter to win more than anything. The former Miss Baltimore Crabs. Vocal range: G3-E5. Played by a white actress.

Amber Von Tussle - Link's girlfriend and Tracy's nemesis. She is pretty, shallow and snobby. Can't dance but is expected to win Miss Baltimore Hairspray. Vocal range: A3-F5. Played by a white actress.

Link Larkin - The star heartthrob on Corny Collins' show. He is extremely attractive and talented. Hoping to get his big break with a recording contract, he unexpectedly falls for Tracy. Vocal range: G3-A5. Played by a white actor.

Seaweed J. Stubbs - Tracy's classmate and friend, who is discriminated against due to his skin color. He is cocky but surprisingly lovable. Talented in song and dance. He falls for Penny. Vocal range: F3-D5. Played by a black actor.

Little Inez - Seaweed's little sister. Played by a black actress.

Motormouth Maybelle - Seaweed and Little Inez's mother, she also appears as the Guest DJ on the Corny Collin's Negro Day show. Big, blonde, beautiful and proud of it. She is sassy and confident. Vocal range: F3-E5. Played by a black actress.

Wilbur Turnblad - Tracy's simpleminded and kind father. He owns a joke shop and supports his daughter in spite of everything else. He also loves his wife, Edna, very much.  Vocal range: A3-A5. Played by a white actor.

Prudy Pingleton - Penny's strict mother. Very conservative, controlling, and closed minded. Vocal range: D4-B4. Played by a white actress.
