Synopsis

A fabulously fun award-winning musical based on the adored movie, Legally Blonde The Musical, follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. Action-packed and exploding with memorable songs and dynamic dances - this musical is so much fun, it should be illegal! Elle Woods appears to have it all. Her life is turned upside down when her boyfriend Warner dumps her so he can attend Harvard Law. Determined to get him back, Elle ingeniously charms her way into the prestigious law school. While there, she struggles with peers, professors and her ex. With the support of some new friends, though, Elle quickly realizes her potential and sets out to prove herself to the world.

Character Breakdown

Elle Woods: Female presenting – playing age 20-25 - (Gb2-G5 Soprano Belt) - Elle is a pretty, effervescent, college-age girl who has all the positive qualities of being raised in a Malibu bubble by adoring parents: eternally optimistic, open, lovable, spontaneous, fun-loving. At first vulnerable to life’s knocks, in her determination to find love she discovers growing inner resolve and the confidence that she can be taken seriously by others, and herself. Excellent singer, actor and dancer, with comedic skills and boundless energy – who is hopefully comfortable with dogs. She carries the show.

Warner Huntington III: Male presenting – playing age 20-25 - (Eb3-Ab4 Tenor) - Warner is attractive, confident and charming but ultimately self-absorbed . The son of a wealthy US Congressman he will do whatever it takes to achieve his dream of becoming a senator, including breaking Elle’s heart. Confident actor/singer with excellent stage presence. Strong singer/actor with bags of stage presence.

Emmet Forrest: Male – playing age 25-30 - (B2-A4 Tenor) – One of Harvard’s top law students, and one of Callahan’s Teaching Assistants. Emmett is a personable, compassionate and successful law student with a lovable nature and dry wit. He ends up taking Elle under his wing and believes in her when it seems that no one else does. Initially unassuming and plain, he blossoms alongside his relationship with Elle. Strong singer/actor with a dry sense of humor.

Vivienne Kensington: Female – playing age 20-25 - (A3-F5 Soprano Belt) - Vivienne initially appears as a self-assured, wealthy and savvy law student who is intellectually driven and prepared to scheme to get her own way: a ruthless social climber. She is initially threatened by Elle's presence (as competition for Warner) but her cool exterior is gradually warmed by Elle’s charms and her human side is revealed. Strong character actress with good singing voice

Paulette Bonafonte: Female – playing age 30-40s - (A3-A5 Soprano Belt) – Paulette, the quirky, friendly owner of Hair Affair Salon, is ruled by her heart rather than her head. Working class and somewhat downtrodden by an unluckly love life, she is funny, straight-talking with a massive heart. Elle helps her regain her self-confidence and get her dog and her new man. Excellent singer and comic actress with a powerful belt to match her big personality!

Professor Callahan: Male – playing age 40-60s - (A2-F#4 Baritone) - Callahan is a confident and somewhat self-important law professor at Harvard. He has a commanding presence, and students are intimated by his reputation for ruthlessness and his ability to quietly humiliate unsuspecting students in his class. Callahan should be charming and charismatic but able to switch instantly into a conniving shark at the turn of a hat. Excellent actor with stage presence, authority and a confident singing voice.

Brooke Wyndham: Female – playing age 25- 35 - (A3-G5 Alto or Soprano) - A confident, highly successful exercise video star and former Delta Nu sorority girl who has been accused of murder. Her body is her career, and being physically fit is a must to carry off high level aerobics whilst singing. Excellent dancer with stamina and strong singing voice. Confident actor

Kyle B. O’Boyle: Kyle is a likeable, muscular, masculine, smooth-talking UPS deliveryman. We soon find out that he is Paulette's dream guy. Must be comfortable with dogs. Confident character actor – non-singing role

Enid Hoopes: Female – playing age 20s - (G3-G5 Soprano Belt) - Enid is a strong, opinionated, fiercely-feminist law student at Harvard. Comfortable in camos, saving the world and fighting for equality. A quirky character with great comedic timing! Strong comedy actress with some sung elements, including a verse of “The Harvard Variations”

Kate: (G#3-F5 Belt) – The smart education chair at Delta Nu. She helps coach Elle for the LASAT test, singing in ‘What You Want’

The Delta Nu (The Sorority Sisters): Elle's entourage who follow her through the story acting as her “Greek Chorus”. Excellent dancers with strong singing voices, good comic timing and boundless youthful energy! Within the ‘Delta Nu’ are some named characters with their own dialogue and sung lines.

  • Serena (G#3-F5 Belt) - The energetic cheerleader, sorority sister.

  • Margot (G#3-F5 Belt) - The sometimes dim-witted, boy-crazy sorority sister.

  • Pilar (G#3-F5 Belt) - The sassy and sensible sorority sister.
