Staff Electrician
Location: Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center, One Lincoln Park, Midland PA 15059
Reports to: Head Electrician
Job Type: Part-Time (30-Hours a Week)
Travel: Electrician will primarily report to Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center, some travel to Center’s other shop locations required at certain times depending on show build requirements
Rate: $20.00/hour
Job Summary:
The Staff Electrician assists in maintaining various aspects of theatrical lighting, including installation, operation, and maintenance. This position will consistently follow high standards of business and professional ethics when dealing with others and/or performing work activities.
Safety Responsibilities
Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
Utilizing proper PPE at all times;
Practicing safety precautions to reduce the risk of injury to self and others;
Maintaining a clean and hazard-free workspace;
Refraining from utilizing tools, or other items if you are not properly trained to do so;
Promptly asking for assistance and training when necessary
Ensuring that all tools and supplies are stored properly;
Maintaining a strong knowledge of and adhering to all safety protocol and procedures throughout the course of employment.
Job Responsibilities:
Aid in the installation, operation, and maintenance of the theatrical lighting equipment
Assists with the hang, cable, and focus of light plots
Operate light board when necessary
Attends and participates in staff meetings, full company meetings, and production meetings as needed
Attends and participates in load-ins, strikes, technical rehearsals, and performances as needed
Keeps immediate supervisor promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance
Works alongside and within other disciplines/departments as needed to achieve production department goals, as determined by management.
Regular and predictable attendance, punctuality, and strict adherence to the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center attendance policy are essential functions of this position
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience with all phases of installation, operation, and maintenance of theatrical lighting equipment
Ability to follow lighting plot to ensure equipment is properly placed and cabled
Basic understanding of electricity and data signal flow
Experience with loading and operating a counterweight fly system, including weight loading at height
Knowledge of different lighting consoles; specifically the ETC Gio, Ion, and ETC EOS family control consoles
Must be able to multitask
Strong organizational skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Strong verbal and written communication skills
The successful candidate will have a thorough knowledge of standard theatrical practices, comfort with ladders and working from heights, able to lift and carry at least 50lbs, and feel comfortable operating a scissor lift, single man boom lift, and box truck
Employment contingent upon your successful completion of state and federal clearances
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to solder
Strong troubleshooting skills in theatrical lighting
Rigging, drafting, carpentry, and knowledge of additional theatrical disciplines
Understanding of fixture maintenance and repair for common conventional lighting fixtures and various electrical and data cable types
Experience with practicals and set electrics (lamps, LED tape, light boxes, wireless DMX, etc.)
Required Education:
High School Diploma Required
Preferred Education:
BA or BFA in Technical Theater or minimum of 2 years related experience
Required Certifications/Licenses:
Valid Driver’s License
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work flexible schedule including weekends and evenings as determined by the season schedule.
There is frequent need to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, carry items, use the hands and fingers, climb stairs, balance, kneel, occasionally lift objects up to 50 pounds, and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday.
Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
An essential function of this position is the employee’s attendance and physical presence within the Center.
Responsibilities and time allocation may change over time to meet the needs of Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center and can include other duties as assigned.
Candidates must be able to pass a background check.
