Master Electrician

Location: Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center, One Lincoln Park, Midland PA 15059

Reports to: Production Manager

Job Type: Full-Time

Travel: Occasional travel to our different shop locations.

Rate: $44,000-48,000/year

Job Summary:

The Master Electrician is responsible for implementing the lighting design for productions and ensuring all lighting needs are met throughout the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center.  This position will consistently follow high standards of business and professional ethics when dealing with others and/or performing work activities.

Safety Responsibilities

Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment.  This includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Providing day-to-day safety oversight of employees

  • Ensuring employees are properly trained prior to utilizing equipment

  • Maintaining cleanliness of all work spaces and ensuring that work spaces are hazard-free

  • Ensuring that all tools and supplies are stored properly

  • Maintaining a strong knowledge of and adhering to all safety protocol and procedures throughout the course of employment

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides oversight and manages the day-to-day activities of the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center’s team of electricians

  • Work with lighting designers for each production to coordinate any needed rentals and provide support for any questions or problem solving needed 

  • Provides quality control to ensure that all lighting equipment is installed safely and meets the designer’s specification

  • Works with the Production Manager on equipment allocation

  • Responsible for calculating circuit mapping of lighting equipment and electric power distribution

  • Lead electricians through the hang, cabling, programming, and focus of lighting plots including conventional, LED, intelligent moving lighting instruments, and other DMX controlled equipment

  • Responsible for troubleshooting and resolving issues with equipment and completeting necessary repairs

  • Assists Stage Management with installation of running lights and dressing any cables affecting on/offstage safety

  • Research new equipment and software to ensure Lincoln Park stays up to date with technology and best practices

  • Strikes all lighting equipment at the end of the run and restore the rep plot.

  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, full company meetings, and production meetings as needed.

  • Attends and participates in load-ins, strikes, technical rehearsals, and performances as needed.

  • Works independently or with the appropriate team member(s) in identifying and managing the resolution of issues that may arise in the workplace.

  • Keeps immediate supervisor promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance.

  • Accepts and performs other duties as assigned.

  • Regular and predictable attendance, punctuality, and strict adherence to the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center attendance policy are essential functions of this position.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Utilizes different lighting consoles and console programming; specifically, the ETC Gio, the Ion, and ETC EOS family control consoles.

  • Have experience with all phases of installation, operation, and maintenance of theatrical lighting equipment

  • Rigging knowledge to ensure all lighting equipment is installed safely and weighted properly

  • Expert knowledge utilizing Lightwright and Vectorworks

  • Experience using different types of marterials to fabricate custom lighting fixtures including LED Tape, Pixel Tape, and Neon Flex Rope Light

  • The successful candidate will have a thorough knowledge of standard theatrical practices, comfort with ladders and working from heights, able to lift and carry at least 50lbs, and feel comfortable operating a scissor lift

  • Must be able to set priorities, meet deadlines, and multitask

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 

  • Employment contingent upon your successful completion of state and federal clearances

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some lighting design experience preferred but not required

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma Required

Preferred Education:

  • BA or BFA in Technical Theater or minimum of 2 years related experience

Required Certifications/Licenses:

  • Valid Driver’s License

Preferred Certifications:

  • ETCP Rigging Certification

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work long hours, i.e. a 30 hour week plus weekends and evenings, as determined by the season’s schedule

  • There is frequent need to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, carry items, use the hands and fingers, climb stairs, balance, kneel, occasionally lift objects up to 50 pounds, and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday.

  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • An essential function of this position is the employee’s full time attendance and physical presence within the shop.

Responsibilities and time allocation may change over time to meet the needs of Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center and can include other duties as assigned.
